Long time no post ...

OK ... so it has been a LONG month since my last posting ... what with work, reading Order of the Stick, and our 5th Anniversary, and the 4th of July, and sickness by EVERYONE in the family, well, it's been a LONG 4 weeks!a couple of pieces complete (OK OK ... ONE piece complete) and a couple in progress and playing around with. So, without further ado on with the works, right? (Honestly, does anyone read this for what I say?!?)

First up are a FEW shots of the Blood Ghost Berserker that I recently redid ... got a wild hair while transferring my minis from the box to the new bin. Anyhoo, the old paint job was mediocre at best. So I touched him up and added a little 'effect'. Sadly this guy did NOT want to be photographed. What you see below is the best out of 3 different photo sessions. I seriously just need to let the expert (read Sabbath) do this!

Next is an in progress update on 'Daine Hardhammer' (as I have come to call him) ... a human cleric of the Pelor-like Sun God (yada yada yada) ... this is a repaint for Jason (from the Sunday campaign)... again, my photo skills are lacking. Mostly gold, silver, black, and dark/opaque violet. Not a great photo, but the mini is coming along nicely, I think.

A Cleric and his mount

Another mini for the Sunday Ptolus campaign, this one is Jason's replacement for Oda ... a Cleric of the sun goddess (I shall call her Elisa) and his trusted lion mount (a Lion Mount?!). Jason definitely was thinking outside the box with this one!! Of course, at the point we are at, most of the group is power gaming in one way or another (Cal has an enormous AC & DR, Jason has versatility for damage and healing, I deal immense amounts of damage with each swing, Keoki can kill you with his mind, and Dave ... ).

So here is Jason's 'new' cleric (whose name I don't know) and Kitty. I didn't want to mount the cleric on the lion, as Jason proved that he is capable of fighting on and off his mount, so I kept the two separate for ease of use. I also had to work with a mini that uses armor, a lance, and a shield (and we all know how many of those there are!), so I went to work a-hacking and gluing! I used the Royal Guard as my base mini for the character (rather versatile sculpt) and 'liberated' a shield from a crappy Mercenary Sergeant (I only have like 4 more!). The mounting of the shield was a little bit of a challenge, as I had to place it so that it looked like it belongs AND (to me at least) it looks useful - like the cleric could mount the lion, use the shield for blocking, and drop the lance forward for a charge. All in all, I think it turned out solid.

As far as paint goes, as a worshipper of the Elisa (remember, that is what I named the Sun Goddess), one of the old gods, I wanted a bright, yet powerful image. Most of the good clerics I have seen wear white ... I went for a radiant, sun-like tint to the armor, and the black and silver for added effect. End result, a warrior a goddess could be proud of! Frankly, I dig it.

A little later this week, I should have a 'ghost' of a chance to post what has become my favorite of my repaints. Looking at it makes me a little giddy!! :)

Ice Elf Winter Mage (?)

So this project was started on a whim after a request of one of the guys in the Sunday Ptolus campaign. Did of my own free will, and still doesn't seem to be right. Go figure. All in all, I am pretty happy with this rework, though I could be happier about the face (HORRIBLE sculpt line across the right of the face as you look at it!). Really don't know that I want to ruin it with blue armor and white hair (especially since white is so showing of everything!!). Nonetheless here he is ...

the June Uncommon Painting Challenge

For my next trick, I bring you both pieces that I did for the June Uncommon Painting Challenge on Hordelings (http://hordelings.com/frontend/forums/postView.php?post_id=81191). This month's challenges were the Cormyrean War Wizard and Celestial Giant Owl - both from the most recent set - Unhallowed.

For the War Wizard, I didn't have an overlying theme of any sort ... just kind of a 'Grey Wizard' - one who walked the line between the dark and the light ... OK, so putting it that way, maybe I was influenced by KoToR and the 'Grey Jedi' ... either way, no mods were done with this piece, strictly repaint ...

And for the second piece - the Celestial Giant Owl ... well, at first, Sabbath and I had a groovy Owl Totem idea that involved the beheading and dewinging of a Sword Archon ... and I had an idea for an Owl Bear (only literally imposing the owl onto a Werebear ... but the bear was too big ... ) ... instead, I drew inspiration from a little movie and little book that are coming up in about a month, maybe you have heard of the series - Harry Potter? Well, this would be my version of Hedwig ... bringing a special delivery of some sort to Harry ... a spell? the news? The secret to the ending of Book 7?? That is for you to decide!

Well, that is all for tonight ... it is late and I need some sleep.
I still have 2 more to post ... and possibly a 3rd, if I can get the enthusiasm to base and spray him Monday - I will say this, though ... I am the most excited and thrilled with the way he turned out. I think he is my favorite finish to date!

Update #1 - Invisible Blade

I promised you updates, and I deliver. First up, is my backup character to my backup character (long story) in the Ptolus Campaign (currently on hiatus). He is a halfling Invisible Blade/Rogue (basically a short guy who fights with no armor and just 2 daggers ... or in my character's case, 2 kukri). The original mini used was a Halfling Brawler (fr. Unhallowed).

A couple of notes about this one - the Brawler originally had a handaxe in each hand, and another 3 hanging from his right hip. The only thing not reworked on this figure is the face.

No ... not quite. The battery on the camera has died, and we just haven't had a chance (or the spare cash) to buy a new one. HOWEVER, I have been working on a few new pieces ... so, coming soon (hopefully by the end of the weekend):

the finished Duergar Slaver

So I promised ... and here is the first COMPLETE delivery (enough with the teases already!) ...
This is a Duergar Slaver from the D&D Minis 'Unhallowed' release. My brother in law, Steve, asked me to repaint him (man the original paint sucked! He is just a common, after all) ... but here is the finished, based project. Many thanks to my lovely wife for taking the pictures!! Enjoy!

Frostspawn Arcaniss

So I lied ... decided to toss up here the repaint I did for the hordelings.com April Uncommon Painting Challenge (or UPC). The rules - repaint either a Marid (yawn) or Redspawn Arcaniss in any way that you want ... so here is what I came up with. I have long wondered why you couldn't hybridize D&D dragons - like a white and blue hybrid - so this is a little glimpse at that. Not my best or favorite work ... but it was still early on ;)

Update for 5/7 - Bad Garden Gnome!

Two new figures for posting ... the first is a reworking of a Duergar Slaver - made a little more "pompous" by his "success". Look closely for the 'pimpin surprise' ...

Secondly we have what is becoming my backup character for our Ptolus Sunday campaign ... I have named him 'Gar' (short for guard) - a Warforged Fighter/Juggernaut, who was created to be a bodyguard for a good wizard who succumbed to the evil that he fought against. Reworked and fancied up a bit with some extra color.
